Does Chessy adapt to my level?
As one of the best chess AI coaches on the market, Chessy not only adapts to your level but also your playing personality. Chessy knows all about your playstyle and history from your online chess accounts, as well as those games played against Chessy. Our goal is to make your coaching experience completely personalized and tailored to your level, strengths and weaknesses!
Will Chessy suggest different moves based on my playing style?
Yes! Chessy learns from your games and adapts recommendations to match your style. If you're aggressive, Chessy might suggest tactical opportunities; if you're positional, you'll get more strategic advice. And if you’re a beginner, you’ll learn the best chess strategy for beginners as you simply play.
What kind of feedback can Chessy provide?
Chessy provides feedback on a wide variety of chess aspects including best moves, short and long-term plans, tactical threats, and personalized suggestions based on your strengths, weaknesses, and current level. Many users find this the best way to learn chess as you can ask about principles, concepts, or get evaluations of your current position. Through this coaching, you can play winning chess by focusing on basic chess strategy or more advanced topics as needed
Note: Keep in mind that Chessy is still in alpha stage, and may get the wrong answer sometimes. Very complex questions (e.g., asking about implications 3+ moves ahead, and discussing previous moves in the context of current moves) may be beyond Chessy's current capabilities. If you notice any issues, please let us know or 'thumbs down' the response in the chat so we can keep improving.
How do I get Chessy to explain concepts more deeply?
You should enable 'genius mode' through the button on the play page. This 'digs deeper' and explains concepts more thoroughly. This feature is still in alpha so there may be occasional issues. You will soon be able to customize the length of responses as well. For even more comprehensive analysis, you can also use the analyze page where Chessy can provide detailed explanations of positions and concepts. Enabling genius mode can feel like receiving the best free chess lessons on demand.
Does Chessy support different languages?
Chessy can speak in dozens of different languages via text, including chess in arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Hindi, Russian, and much more. Just ask him to switch languages! Voice interaction currently only works in English and the site UI is only in English for now. We are actively expanding to other languages. Yes! Unlike fixed options like play chess against computer level 4 or other boring static settings, Chessy offers adjustable difficulty and teaching approaches. You can adjust Chessy's difficulty level, his personality / teaching style, and even the type of feedback you receive. You can also add details about your chess objectives and goals to tailor your experience even further.

What options do I have for advice during the game?
One of the best ways to learn chess is through real-time advice, which you can get using various Chessy features. You can use the 'hint' dropdown for suggestions on the piece or move to make. You can also ask one of the predefined questions (or set your own in the customization page). You can of course also just type or use voice to ask any unique questions. Once a game is done, you can then analyze and review it with Chessy on the analyze page!
How does the voice interaction with Chessy work?
Simply click the microphone button during a game to ask Chessy questions. When you stop speaking, Chessy will detect that and answer. The voice recognition works with most modern browsers, and you can seamlessly switch between voice and text chat. No special software is required. It’s similar to an online chess game with computer, but with the added advantage of a chess AI online that can talk you through positions in real time.
Are takebacks allowed during the game?
No, takebacks are not currently allowed during the game. If this is a feature you're interested in then let us know :)
Can I practice specific openings or endgames with Chessy?
Absolutely! You can select a specific opening or position when you create a new game through the 'New game' button. If you’d like to drill all chess openings or study popular chess openings, Chessy will guide you move by move to deepen your understanding of each variation.
What happens if I lose internet connection during a game?
Your game state is automatically saved. When you reconnect, you can resume from your last position. No progress should be lost. You can also leave your game and come back whenever you want.
Are my games and progress saved automatically?
Yes, all games, analyses, and progress are automatically saved to your account. You can access your complete history at any time in the 'history' page in the sidebar.

You can learn chess openings in several ways with Chessy. On the Chessy Chat page, there's a dedicated "Openings" tab on the right side where you can select from approximately 20 different chess openings. . Chessy will explain the opening of your choice, including its advantages, typical plans, and can even personalize this information based on your Chess.com statistics. During gameplay, you can also practice specific openings by selecting them when creating a new game through the setup process. Additionally, you can ask Chessy opening-related questions at any time during a game or analysis session to get contextual advice about the opening you're playing.

You can now 'copy' your PGN from games played against Chessy and also externally played games that you analyze through our online chess game platform. You can also share your chats and analysis with others via a sharing link (you can create this by finding the share button).
